Available for sale here is Indium 99.995% 10 grams :
Indium (In, atomic number 49) is a soft, silvery-white, post-transition metal primarily used in indium tin oxide (ITO) for touchscreens, flat-panel TVs, and solar panels. It is a rare byproduct of zinc processing with unique properties, including low melting point, high ductility, and the ability to remain workable at cryogenic temperatures.
In real life, indium may be a little too mundane of a resource to merit interstellar travel but it definitely possesses some extraordinary qualities. The first of these is the incredible softness; allowing someone with a rod of this material to pull off Hulk-like bending tricks with the utmost of ease to the bewilderment of any present spectators.
To this we can also add a very high degree of resistance to corrosion. Indium also has one of the lowest toxicity profiles of a metallic element rivaling in this regard members of the platinum group. Finally, this element does nab one ‘rarest’ title.
Chemically, indium is similar to gallium and thallium, and its properties are largely intermediate between the two. It was discovered in 1863 by Ferdinand Reich and Hieronymous Theodor Richter by spectroscopic methods and named for the indigo blue line in its spectrum.
Indium is used primarily in the production of flat-panel displays as indium tin oxide (ITO), a transparent and conductive coating applied to glass. It is also used in the semiconductor industry, in low-melting-point metal alloys such as solders and soft-metal high-vacuum seals.
It is used in the manufacture of blue and white LED circuits, mainly to produce Indium gallium nitride p-type semiconductor substrates. It is produced exclusively as a by-product during the processing of the ores of other metals, chiefly from sphalerite and other zinc sulfide ores.
