Rubidium is a chemical element with the symbol Rb and atomic number 37, classified as an alkali metal in group 1 of the periodic table. It appears as a soft, silvery-white solid at room temperature, characterized by extreme reactivity that causes it to ignite spontaneously in air and react violently with water to produce hydrogen gas and heat.

With a low melting point of 39.3 °C and a density of 1.53 g/cm³, rubidium is one of the least dense metals and remains solid only slightly above room temperature.

The density of rubidium is 1.532 g/cm³ at 20 °C, making it denser than the lighter alkali metals lithium (0.534 g/cm³), sodium (0.968 g/cm³), and potassium (0.862 g/cm³).
