Available for sale here is Venom of Opistophthalmus Latimanus :
Opistophthalmus latimanus, commonly known as the Dusky Burrower, is a species of scorpion in the family Scorpionidae, found in southern Africa. Its venom is considered mild and is not deemed medically significant to humans.
These burrowing scorpions are notable for their robust morphology, with body lengths reaching up to 130 mm in some species, large and powerful pedipalps used for prey capture, and adaptations for subterranean lifestyles such as specialized setae for navigating sandy environments.
Key details regarding the venom of O. latimanus include:
Toxicity: The venom is weak, with a sting often compared to that of a bee.
Symptoms: A sting typically results in localized pain, which generally subsides within a few hours to a few days.
Medical Importance: While painful, the sting of this species poses no significant threat to humans and does not usually require specific antivenom.
Behavior: As a burrowing scorpion with thick, powerful pincers, it relies more on physical strength for defense and catching prey rather than highly toxic venom.
Habitat: They are commonly found under rocks in shallow burrows throughout the central Eastern Cape and surrounding areas.
Opistophthalmus scorpions are typically heavily built for scorpions, and have broad, powerful claws (chelae). They vary in color from yellow through brown to black, usually with darker or lighter areas. The leg color is typically much lighter than the rest of the body.
Little data known, but sting is probably moderate painful. This species has no medical significance for healthy humans (an anecdontal source says that the venom can have unpleseant systemic effects, but this has not been verified). This species will sting readilly, and has very powerful pincers which can pinch very painful.
